Name: Adelaide Marie Tatianna von Ornstein Nicknames: Adi, Anna, or Tati Unit name: Cataclysm Unit Position: Sacrifice Partner's Name: Valshe Jenoiu Gender: Female Marital Status: Single Orientation: Heterosexual Age: 22 Birth Date: June 8 Occupation/Grade: Student in her third year of university majoring in business. She is also learning more about the family business. Dreams/Life Goals: To make her family proud and hopefully have a good relationship with her Fighter. Hair: White and reaches just below her hips. Ears and Tail: White to match her hair and they resemble a Chartreux’s (a French cat breed) Eyes: Blood Red Height: 5 feet 5 inches Build: While she is on the slender side, she is still pretty curvy and she weighs more than one might think she would. She is also rather delicate in appearance and looks very much like a porcelain doll to some. Name location: It is written in Japanese characters down her spinal column. Tati is very lovely young woman with porcelain pale skin and a delicate face and build. She has a nice physique thanks to her training and her desire to keep in shape to be healthy. She is neither too curvy nor too thin but she does weigh a bit more than one might imagine given her delicate frame. Her beautiful long white hair and blood red eyes are a famous trademark of the Ornstein clan and nearly everyone in the family as them. But her delicate frame and face are purely Durant and she looks very much like her mother thankfully rather than her more rugged looking father. Her father may be a handsome man to some but his face would not look nice on a girl. She tends to dress in a slightly old fashioned manner thanks to her love of vintage fashion trends but always manages to look trendy rather than matronly. Tati tends to prefer skirts and dresses to pants and loves to wear a nice pair of heels to both complete her look and give herself just a bit more height. Elegant, charming, and poised, Adelaide is the picture of the aristocratic sacrifice due her family’s tough etiquette lessons. Many will think her cold and haughty when they first encounter her but spend some time in her company and watch that initial impression fall away. Kind and gracious, she loves meeting new people and she greatly enjoys the company of others. Especially if they know how to tell a good joke. She is the life of any gala she attends and enjoys a reputation as one of the nicest aristocrats one can meet. To those who are fortunate enough to call her a friend, she is a loyal and loving person and she always has time to spare for a friend in need. Be this a shoulder to cry on or a much needed piece of advice for the person in question, she is always willing to lend a helpful hand to her allies. However, to those unlucky enough to call her a foe, they will find a clever and ruthless force to be reckoned with. Nothing will stand in her way to tear down those who oppose her so become her enemy at your own risk. Thankfully, it is difficult to earn her hatred but there are a few ways to earn it instantly so be forewarned. The history of the Ornstein family is a long but not very exciting one that stretches back into the 1800s in Germany. The family has never been very highly ranked but they have had remarkable staying power that has kept in the just right the position to prevent their ruin. Their family has produced Units since the very beginning and they have enjoyed a great deal of success in the Unit world. Never too much nor too little is the motto of the Ornstein clan as they prize balance above all else. Makes sense really considering how far such a philosophy has brought them. The family made much of their fortune from owning various factories and textiles manufacturing facilities during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The family really wasn’t all that prominent in Unit history all truth be told. Yes, they were mentioned here and there as being a part of important events but they had never taken the central stage on anything. That is until World War Two began. Like much of Germany, the family had fallen onto a bit of hard times thanks to the hard economic times brought on by the end of World War One. They were better off than most thankfully and did their best to help those in their territory with what limited power they had but sadly, it wasn’t much. However, it was during this time that they gained much more popularity and influence then they had ever enjoyed previously due to their humanitarian efforts. During this tumultuous period of history, a certain man began to gain a following, a following that would have devastating consequences for both Germany and the world. That man was Adolf Hitler. Hitler as one would imagine given what is known about the man today, was very interested in using the power of Units to increase the powers of his army and he began courting a few of the Noble families to try and gain supporters. A few of the higher ranking ones took him up on his offer, desperate to reclaim what they saw as their “fallen glory”. However, the Ornstein, along with many of the lower ranking groups and families, were not so on enthralled with the idea. To the Ornstein who prized balance, this directly contradicted their family’s creed and so they declined his offer. This would change their family’s history forever. Hitler was not pleased with their refusal since they held a great deal of influence despite their lower rank than the families already under his control. This could sway others to their side and he couldn’t allow that. So he had the family declared traitors. Overnight, things changed instantly for the Ornstein and the only thing that saved them from complete destruction was in fact the good will that so many of the high ranking families had scorned. A few of the more “in the know” individuals, and much more criminal elements if one were to be completely honest, had informed the Ornstein family of the move beforehand thanks to their government contacts. These individuals had felt indebted to the family for their kindness to the poor families in their territory, many of whom were family members of the nefarious people in question. Hence their sudden generous spirit in helping the Ornstein, along with a few of their allies, escape to the United States. The family immediately began getting settled once more, somehow knowing they would never be able to return to their beloved home again. This assumption was sadly proven correct as the new NAZI government took over all their factories and places of residences briefly before passing them out like spoils of war to the other Noble families allied with them. The family wouldn’t find out exactly what had happened until after the war was over however. Regardless, the family managed to get back on their feet during this time but their textiles manufacturing and other factories didn’t really take off until after the United States entered the war as well. Seemingly overnight their stocks soared and finally the family began to gain prominence again. Though as always with the Ornstein, balance was key. Remember children, the elders would say, never too much nor too little, for balance is key. The family continued to enjoy much success even as the war dragged on until finally, blissfully, it ended. Some members of the family wanted to return to Germany, but most decided that it was far too dangerous. For the first time, the balance the family had cultivated within itself for generations was broken. After much bickering and in fighting, the members that wanted to return home to Germany were allowed to go. Only to discover that everything that they had loved was gone. Many of their factories had either been shut down or condemned, their former homes destroyed and wiped off the face of the map forever, and their territory split up into many different pieces belonging to various other groups. It was as if the Ornstein family had never existed at all. They were forced to return to their new home with broken hearts and relayed the sad state of affairs to everyone who had remained behind. And so they stayed, balance once again restored. Time passed and the family slowly formed their new powerbase in the Unit world, taking over an area in the southeastern United States. They now hold a moderately large section of Georgia and Alabama which is something they are very proud of since they didn’t have to fight a single Noble family or Unit to obtain it. Time, patience, good alliances, and a little bit of luck with paired Units in the right places, are what paved their way to power and as such they hold one of the better reputations in the Unit society of America. This is family that Adelaide would be born into. Born to a French mother and an American father, her parents had been Unit partners, their name being Peerless. Her mother, Camille Durant, was the Fighter while her father, Derek, was the Sacrifice and they had been brought together when their families were seeking to put a factory on land owned by the Durant family. It was all rather fortuitous really. But such is the great luck of the Ornstein. Camille and Derek soon fell in love due to their strong bond and got married. They would only have one child as Camille was sadly unable to have more due something going wrong during Adelaide’s birth but they doted affection on their little girl. Named by the Durant family’s tradition: the parents giving the child the first name, the maternal grandparents the second, and the paternal grandparents the third, Tati, as she is more commonly known, ended up with quite the long name. She doesn’t mind it all that much but it can be really strange to those who are unused to such long names nowadays and she did get teased a bit for it in school. Time passed once more, in a flurry of etiquette lessons, schooling, and the craziness that life as aristocrat can bring and Tati soon grew into an accomplished and poised young woman. She was well liked by her peers and had many friends and acquaintances as well as being highly sought after by other members of Noble families as a potential bride for their sons. Her parents however, refused all marriage contracts as they wanted their little girl to be able to choose for herself as both of them had been able too. She had gone on a few dates and had a few boyfriends but none of these relationships lasted but she is still continuing to look for love. Yes, her life has been well and truly blest. There was only one problem during that time and that was that she hadn’t yet produced a Unit Name. Her family knew she was a Unit as she had all the classic signs of one but no Name had ever appeared. Both the Durants and the Ornsteins tended to get their names at the onset of puberty so the fact that she hadn’t produced one yet was worrying. They were terrified that she was a Blank as Blanks could expect a great deal of turmoil in both themselves and their lives before they were claimed by another. That was the last thing they wanted for their daughter but there was nothing they could do but hope. However, this worry turned out to be needless as she was apparently just a late-bloomer. On her first day of college, she contacted her parents with great news. She finally had a Name! Ok, she couldn’t read it since it was in a foreign language that she didn’t know but it was still something. Her parents, as well as the whole family really since they didn’t like that just anyone could take their “princess” away, rejoiced at the news and set about trying to find her match immediately. She was taken to their local branch of Septimal Moons once the school day was over and the Name was immediately run through their database to see if one matched. Now normally this process takes at least a month but sometimes it pays to be a well-liked Noble since the whole thing was pushed through in order to find them quickly. Thankfully, since they knew that it was written in an Asian language that helped narrow down the search quite a bit as well. It took only a week for the news to come back that indeed there was someone who held a matching name written in the same characters in the same location. It turned that she was matched with a young Noble from Japan named Valshe Jenoiu. Oh boy, just what did fate have in store for her since he was so highly ranked in Japan? Her family was overjoyed at the discovery if only because it meant they only had to worry about one potential enemy as opposed to many. She has learned a bit about Valshe over the years as it’s hard to ignore such things but she has done her best to try and not poke around too much since she wished to get to know him herself. She has been preparing to meet him since that time by studying Japanese, preparing to transfer schools to go to college in Japan, learning proper Japanese etiquette and other important things like that. Tati has studied hard in an effort to not embarrass her newly found Fighter. The time has now come for the two of them to meet so she’s in the process of traveling to Japan. But before she left, the head of her household and the last member that still remembered Germany as their home, her great-grandmother Louisa, had one more piece of advice. Remember child, the elder of the Ornstein clan told her, never too much nor too little, for balance is key. Origin: Atlanta, Georgia in United States of America Race/Ethnicity: A mixture of German, French, and American Language: English, French, German, and a little Japanese Family: Camille Leslie Nanette von Ornstein, nee Durant – Mother; Derek Fredrick von Ornstein – Father; Louisa Geraldine von Ornstein – Great-grandmother/Family Head; along with the rest of the Ornstein and Durant families. Hobbies: Reading, sewing, watching plays and television, and listening to music. Likes: Sewing and loves to embroider her own clothes, to make people laugh and be happy. Loves: Her family and friends. Dislikes: Being made fun of for still having her ears as she views it as a childish thing to make fun of. Loathes: Someone threatening her loved ones and people who are needlessly cruel. Fears: Being a disappointment to her family. Strengths: A good heart, strong will, and a very calm and collected personality Good qualities: Kind, a willingness to help others, and her good attitude. Bad habits: Due to her calm nature, she can be seen as arrogant or cold when she doesn’t remind herself to smile. Turn ons: A brilliant mind, people with goals and willingness to achieve them. Turn offs: Laziness Fun Extras: 1) Her speaking voice contains blended traces of both a French and American accent in her Japanese (which is limited but she is thankfully good at picking up languages). There is a small hint of German as well but not as much due to the family having left Germany a few generations ago. 2) Her family uses “woven thread-like” attacks due to their history of manufacturing textiles. Sacrifices from the family can use their Will in a similar fashion but it is limited in effectiveness due to them not being Fighters. |
