Full Name: Takumi Matsumoto Nickname: Taki-chan (his grandfather calls him this) Age: 20 Birth Date: December 21 True Name: Position: Sacrifice Partner's Name: Emiko Matsumoto (Deceased) Gender: Male Orientation: Pansexual Hair: Black, looks purple under direct light. Asymmetrical cut covers his Namesake Eyes: charcoal, needs reading glasses Height: 6'0" Build: slender Name location: On his left cheek, horizontal letters descending from eye-level to just below his jawline. Takumi has been through Hell and lived to tell about it. Six years ago words to describe his personality would have included punk, brat, immature and (his personal favorite) slut. But that was before his mother took her life, before his sister and Fighter died to save him. Before he was tortured mercilessly...and before he avenged them all. Nowadays, he's more apt to be described as cold and distant by those asked to give their first impression of him. He understands who he is and his place in this world, and the implications of it. That isn't to say he accepts or has resigned himself to his fate, not by any means. Rather, he spends his days playing the perfect little Heir...and his nights looking for the loophole that will give him back his freedom. When he ditches his bodyguards, some of his older, less responsible habits still linger. He doesn't discriminate when it comes to sex, or violence; and when nobody important is watching, he can be found either starting a fight or getting off with someone. (As stated before, slut has always been his favorite descriptor.) (Taki, age 14) To tell a story right, you must always start at the beginning. In my case, the beginning was long before I was born. Truthfully, my story goes all the way back to before we Matsumotos were anything special. So, to tell it right, I need to tell you a little bit about my ancestors. This story is pieced together, disjointed and possibly not in the correct order. I blame the record-keepers for not making sure their building was up-to-code. A fire in the late 19th century destroyed most of our family's records. Thankfully, more recent generations have taken to making multiple copies of every document, both physical and digital. They've learned from their history. Yes, yes. I know. "Get to the point, boy." Patience. At any rate, the earliest record we have of our ancestors is a man named Matsumoto Takeo (1637-1701) and his Chinese wife, Mei Lin (1640-1710). They are presumed to be the progenitors of our family in its current state. As posthumously-assumed Founders of the Matsumoto Aristocracy, they had two children who set the tone for the structure of our family and Rule of Succession. Their names: Bunko (1652-1687) and Osamu (1662-1720). Unfortunately for us all, Bunko was both female and a Fighter, whereas her much less intelligent brother was a Sacrifice. Takeo wanted his firstborn to take over the family, but Mei Lin convinced him that in their day and age, Bunko would have trouble gaining the respect of anyone outside the family. So, we got the wonderful First Compromise: Succession falls to the firstborn son of the current family Head, unless a Sacrifice is born. The Sacrifice always trumps firstborn as Heir. At some point in our history, our family went from being bad*ss samurai warriors to bringing Emperor-approved news to the various villages of the time. What would that be called? Heralds? I don't know, but it was a lame move that's gotten us mixed up in the modern media. Sorry, that was chronologically incorrect, but I told you already, our records are a mess. Bunko eventually married Kobayashi Mikio (1650-1687). Their descendants, the present-day Kobayashi Branch of our family, became the record keepers and main fighting force of the Matsumoto family. Seriously, these guys bred like rabbits for a couple centuries and outnumber the main branch 15-1 at this point. Unfortunately for them the First Compromise considered them to be Kobayashi descendants, not Matsumotos-proper. Their production of Units is almost the exact opposite of the Main Branch: Kobayashi Sacrifices outnumber their Fighters 11-1; Matsumoto Fighters outnumber our Sacrifices 10-1. Eventually, a girl named Miwa (1764-1859) was born. She was a Sacrifice, and her twin Tsuneo (1764-1865) was her Fighter. At this point, the Second Compromise (which created our Patriarchs) was created and history was made as Miwa became the first female Head of an Aristocratic house. Hers was actually one of the more prosperous reigns in our history. Miwa never married, so Succession went to her brother's children. The Second Compromise allowed for the Firstborn's Sacrifice (if married into the family) to become Head while the firstborn would become Patriarch/Matriarch. Now, you're probably wondering why I'm telling you about ancient history. It's simple, really. When people don't know their history, good people get dead. Which brings us, at last, to me. I was born in the Nara Prefecture, which has been home to the Main Branch of our family for a few centuries now, even after the Kobayashis moved to Kibo to keep a closer eye on our prospects there. My grandmother, Rei (formerly of the Umizo family)was the Head. Her Fighter, Takehiro is the current Patriarch. My father was their fourth child, third son, Makato. He named me after his oldest brother, who had died in a tragic boating accident. Sadly, the three of them did not play a large role in my childhood. My father died when I was six, and Arisu, my mother and father's Sacrifice, became paranoid. She was convinced someone there wanted us dead, so she moved my sister, Emiko, and I to Kibo. She thought we would be safe here, where the Kobayashis could guard us. Turns out, she was right about someone wanting us dead, and wrong about where we would be safe. When I was eight, doctors informed my mother and sister that I am biologically incapable of fear. This is when Emiko realized that, as she was the Fearless Fighter and could feel the pull of my Will, I was most likely her Sacrifice. She went behind our mother's back and contacted Rei to report the information. When Arisu (by that time drinking in an attempt to self-medicate the issues brought about by her Fighter's death) found out, they fought. Both of them were trying to protect me. In the end, only one of them succeeded. Emiko took me away from our mother, and we lived in a hotel for two years. I was too young to understand that my sister was being trained to take her place as Matriarch, that all the jobs she took at the different Aristocrat-owned companies were political maneuvers both subtle and obvious to the various factions surrounding us. They knew who she was, but I was hidden. I was just a child, unimportant and forgotten by those in power. I knew nothing of our history or my place in it. Eventually, Arisu remarried, a man named Takeshi Segumi. He managed to sober her up, and my sister and I returned home. For a while, things seemed okay. My sister and I were enrolled at Seven Moons. I lost my ears at twelve and scandalized everyone. Segumi taught me kickboxing. Life was good. Or so I thought. When I was 14, Segumi's Fighter, Takehashi Hitoru kidnapped me. He tortured and humiliated me for days. When Emiko finally found me... They're all dead now. Emiko, trying to save me. Arisu, consumed by guilt for bringing that monster into our lives. Segumi and Hitoru...by my hand. Not that killing the hitmen was enough. No, I needed to find the f*cker who sent them after us. Remember when I told you my father had two older brothers? Remember the Rules of Succession? What do you think happens if the Sacrifice is killed, and there is only one son left? Ding! Ding! That's right. The remaining son becomes Heir. It took me a good two years to find the proof I needed, but eventually, my dear old uncle found himself in quite a predicament as his car's break lines were severed. Drove himself off a cliff. Since Emiko died, the Kobayashis took me in. They've been training me, same as any of their Sacrifices. Taught me all about our family history and how my Fighter would still be alive if I'd known enough of our history to be more cautious when it came to my own safety. Takehiro has finally decided I'm ready to learn about politics and business, so he's come to town to tutor me. Unfortunately, Rei died shortly after their arrival. Heart attack, nothing special. But that means the timeline has been moved forward. I've been introduced as Heir (at her funeral, no less). All eyes are on me, and I'd better not screw this up. |
