PERSONALITY
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]To the untrained eye, Amber's entire personality seems defined by her Namesake. She's impulsive, disobedient, driven and tactless. She doesn't obey anyones orders unless absolutely necessary. She's stubborn as a damn mule at times. But she's so much more than just her defiance.
At her core, she's an idealist who believes in justice and the potential of others to be better than they are. She is a fighter in more ways than one, battling a disease that could become terminal at any time and juggling her career and family life. She walks a fine line between professionalism and compassion. She hides her big heart behind her big mouth and sarcastic wit, but at the end of the day, she believes in what she does and will defy anyone who tries to stop her from doing what she knows is right.

HISTORY
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]It was hard to be different, growing up in Angel Falls, Tennessee. With a total population of eighty-some-odd, the locals had all too much ability to watch the little girl with the disturbing birthmark grow up. Several of the older, more superstitious members of the community were convinced the amber-eyed child was hellspawn, a rumor Maxwell and Jessica Fey were quick to put to bed. In their eyes, their daughter's birthmark was a generous gift from an angel, to prepare them for the girl's most tiring of qualities: she was Defiant.
For Amber's part, she never really gave the mark much thought, except to occasionally roll her eyes at the rather excessive amount of attention it earned her. The first decade of her life was mostly dull--there weren't many kids her ages in Angel Falls, so most of her friends were from school. During her ninth summer, Amber was bitten by a rattlesnake. She survived, with the help of some antivenom and a team of doctors. Her family assumed she had fully recovered, as there seemed to be no lasting effects, and she had been sent home with a clean bill of health.
Her brother, Ravyn, was born early the next year. Both Amber's parents doted on their new addition, and Amber herself was thrilled to be a big sister. At first, everything seemed fine. Then the weather cleared up. Amber spent an entire day outside, and the next day was unable to crawl out of bed. She was crying in pain. Unseen under the sunburn she'd gotten the day before, a rash covered her cheeks and nose.
She had dozens of these episodes that summer, causing tension in their household. Maxwell was certain she was acting out, jealous of the attention "baby Lexi" was getting. Jessica wasn't so sure, but she never argued with her husband when he dragged Amber out of bed and told her to go outside to play. Her mother would watch in silent concern as Amber found a little shaded hiding spot and curled into the fetal position. Still, her rashes that summer were passed off as sunburn, nothing more.
The next few years continued in much the same pattern with Amber's symptoms either ignored or dismissed as nonexistant by her father, until she finally learned to go about her business as usual, no matter how bad it hurt or how tired she was. She was thirteen years old the last time she gave in to her physical pain. By the time she turned fourteen, almost everyone thought she had "grown out" of the "phase" she'd been in as she continued to suffer in silent defiance of the message her body was screaming at her.
A year later, Amber found an article online about an autoimmune disorder called systemic lupus erythematosus. The more she read about the disease, the more she suspected it was behind her bouts of pain, fatigue, nausea and her embarrassing rashes. Printing one of the articles, she showed it to her doctor and began the long, frustrating journey to being diagnosed with a disease that many in the medical field had yet to learn about.
In the midst of her medical battles, Amber finally learned the truth behind her birthmark. It was actually her rheumatologist who informed her, at age 17, that she was something called a Fighter and helped her get in touch with the main campus of Seven Moons Academy in the States.
Amber spent most of her free time applying for grants and scholarships over the next year, determined to attend Moons, despiste the high tuition. Her parents begged her to choose something closer to home, but the girl had made up her mind and would not be swayed. And so, she moved to the West Coast.
Taking courses to earn her bachelor's degree during the day and training during evenings was draining on the girl, leaving her with little time to socialize and causing her disease to flare up. Then, there was the fact that she was a Fighter, expected to obey the Sacrifice she paired with during training--something that did not sit well with the Defiant Fighter. She began to do volunteer work at a nearby homeless shelter, an activity which was surprisingly beneficial to her stress levels, despite how much time it took away from her studies.
She was twenty years old when her disobedient nature nearly got her kicked out of Moons. But a Hellhound named Rebecca saw something in the young Fighter that made her do something which, to the school, seemed inconceivable. She offered Amber an internship with W.O.L.F.E. International, the corporate front for the American Unit Military Police. Provided, of course, that the girl was able to be more obedient during training, the position had the opportunity to become full-time employment. Amber accepted, and four years later, became a full-fledged Hellhound.
Her excitement over the job, however, was short-lived. When she went home to celebrate with her family, she found out that something aweful had happened to her little brother. She spent the next 17 months locked in legal battle with her parents to gain control over the teenager, and when she finally brought him home with her, he was broken in ways she couldn't fix, no matter how she tried. The stress of the entire ordeal hospitalized Amber. Her disease had attacked one of her kidneys, forcing an emergency removal of the organ. She emerged from the hospital weak, but determined. Within a week, she found a therapist for Lexi, one who dealt with PTSD and LGBT issues. It was there that she met Jordan, the man she would eventually marry...the moment same-sex marriage became legal in Washington state.
Through all of this, she continued her work with W.O.L.F.E., developing her specialties in intelligence gathering and application. She didn't have to be in the field to make a difference, not with how very much was accessible digitally. But the moment her medical leave was over, she was back in the field, determined to protect those she had sworn to protect by punishing those who aimed to harm them.
Which made if very difficult for the Headmaster at the nearest Moons campus to calm her when she learned of her younger brother's attack in Japan. He tried to order her to stay put, afraid of an international incident, but her orders never came from Moons--they came from the American Counsil through W.O.L.F.E. She applied for emergency family leave, not even bothering to see if the application went through as she packed her things and the remaining clothes her brother had left behind on his trip. The approval came through moments after her flight was booked, along with a warning from her handler not to go hunting the Unit that attacked Lexi. Like she even cared about small-time crooks like them. She just needed to see for herself that her brother was safe.
Her plane is about to land, and she should probably count herself lucky that her handler has more of a head for diplomacy than she does, to think of contacting the Japanese Bloodhounds to alert them of her imminent arrival...as a civilian.
