PERSONALITY
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]Gwen is suspicious of the motives of others, and given her history and where she grew up it's understandable. She's also wary of growing attached to anyone else since she has lost all the family she has ever known, as well as some of the friends she had in the neighborhood. She's made peace with death and has a calm detachment about it. She has a desire to meet her remaining siblings, and she's a very curious girl by nature. She's easily drawn in by facts and mysteries, but she doesn't exactly dismiss the unbelievable or whimsical. She'll examine all sides of a story or argument before making a call on what the truth and the facts are. This doesn't mean she's a good mediator or negotiator - far from it; Gwen has a remarkable talent for pissing people off purely by accident. She struggles with recognizing people due to a condition called prosopagnosia, which is made worse due to her particular form of color blindness. She doesn't seem to have much of a moral code, but she operates by the laws of the neighborhood she grew up in - and still lives in. She's a romantic at heart, but outright avoids romantic entanglements; considering how well it turned out for her family, you can't blame her. She's got this instinctive need to have things in order and paired up, to fix things. This goes for people as much as objects, and even more abstract concepts - stories for example: she has to finish the story somehow. She hasn't had sex yet, but she's no blushing virgin - she just likes the look of her ears. She prefers to be a wallflower, to be forgotten since she intimately knows the pain of remembering someone lost. Gwen expects to die violently like the rest of her family, and even welcomes the idea of simply disappearing without a trace. Not that she hangs out in graveyards or anything remotely like that, just that she doesn't fear it happening and won't do anything to avoid it should the situation occur. However, she doesn't take care of any injuries she receives, and sometimes goes out of her way to get hurt.
HISTORY
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]Have you ever heard of those men who live double lives? Have two wives, two families, and no one ever suspects? Have you ever wondered what things were really like for the women and children in that situation? Especially when it all comes crashing down as secrets are revealed. Well you're in luck. Gwen comes from just such a family...more or less.
Chief of Police Nakahara didn't marry Victoria Pierce Itomi, but was decent enough to allow her child to bear his surname. Victoria was widowed after the death of her Sacrifice, leaving her to raise their son alone, and when she became pregnant from the affair he could have denied all involvement. Instead, Nakahara paid Victoria hush money monthly. The agreement was he'd pay for the boy and his daughter's needs and schooling, and she'd make sure they were all invisible to the public eye. Couldn't have anyone know the Chief of Police was cheating on his terminally ill wife. Not for anyone's sake or feelings or anything like that did he acknowledge the baby. It was pure selfishness - damage control to protect his pristine reputation. He would meet them in person at a private location that changed each time in order to insure she got the money and the child still lived. No need to pay for a dead kid, after all.
Of course Victoria, and thus her son Theo, knew all about Gwen's father's official family. It was hard not to when it was all over the papers when his wife finally passed away after years and years of suffering and fighting her cancer - leaving behind two distraught children and a grieving husband. Gwen and Theo attended normal schools and were taught how to be Fighters by Victoria in private since she didn't approve of the newer methods Seven Moons was using under the now-previous Headmaster. No one ever remarked on the surname difference or age difference between the siblings, nor was the connection to the Chief of Police ever made. They were a secret he didn't want and would do anything to keep from getting out.
That all changed three years ago. Guinevere's father was gunned down in the line of duty. It was not entirely unexpected, given his personality and career. Theo started working at a convenience store in order to support the family. No one was really torn up by the man's loss though, since they had only seen him once a month for a few minutes - like clockwork. What did cause a stir was when a newspaper article about the big brother Gwen had never met caught her eye. Nakahara Kamijo was in an accident and recovering in a hospital. Redintegrate in blood red lettering appeared in the purple iris of her right eye as she read and the dread sank in. She'd almost lost another family member - even if she'd never met him, he was still her brother. Theo theorized it was because of her desire to make Kamijo whole again, or to make their family whole again - with an absentee brother to replace the absentee father. Victoria simply said it was their family line's tendency toward positive Namesakes. Guinevere even tried to sneak into the hospital to see Kamijo's state of health for herself, but with the eyepatch hiding her Namesake from the world, she didn't get very far; she was far too noticeable.
Then a year ago, in an ironic twist that only fate could have conjured, the Faithful Fighter was gunned down along with his mother in a robbery gone wrong - by his own Sacrifice in the same convenience store Theo had been working in for years. In a matter of minutes, Gwen had gone from having a loving family to being utterly alone in the world.
Except for two siblings who had no idea she existed.
She somehow wound up working and attending Seven Moons under the new Headmaster her mother had been keeping a weather eye on. The year was sort of a blur for her. The tiny apartment she'd lived in all her life with her family was surprisingly cheap, but that might have been due to it being so small and in a bad part of town. Not that it ever worried her. She was one of the inhabitants and had made friends with a lot of the criminal element when they were younger, so she has a very loose and vague sort of protection. Plus they all know just how little she has, so robbery of any sort would be more hassle than it'd be worth. Murder isn't out of the question, but there are better targets out there. She's made an odd sort of peace with death; she expects to die violently like the rest of her family did. Gwen expects, even welcomes, simply disappearing one day with no one the wiser. No one to mourn her loss.
