PERSONALITY
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]He has secrets that will never pass his lips; and if asked outright if he is claimed, he'll say whatever will keep him out of trouble. Even if it is a lie. Elijah is very protective and loving towards Helena, but stand-offish and arrogant towards others - even family! He's suspicious of the motives of others, and rarely makes real friends. He's physically active, but never lets her out of his sight in public. Over all, he's a tough kid, and hates not being an adult who can take care of Helena. His relationships with his brothers are a little more complicated. Due to the fact one basically abandoned them and the other causes him great pain when using their bond, he's understandably closer to his sister. This isn't to say he doesn't love his brothers, but it's also not as easy as it is with Lena. Eli is not the most stable of people. Since he is a Blank, he is naturally unstable, and the conflicting namesakes claiming him simultaneously only increase this so that he's balancing on a razor's edge. On the upside, since the bonds are with his triplets, they can keep him from going over the edge; their will as his claiming Sacrifice and Figter is enhanced by the blood tie they all share - and the love they feel for each other. Helena and Tristian are both careful not to demand more of Elijah than he can bear without shattering his mind; however, their closeness means they also know how much farther he can be pushed than outsiders believe.

HISTORY
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]The family name is Stone, and it has been so for several hundred years. Their parents met while Margaret was a very young and inexperienced tourist exploring Germany; they got along so well they decided to meet again. One date turned into one more and one more, until they'd been together for a year before realizing it. She'd decided to live in Germany instead of returning to America. They were in love, and two years to the day they met, he proposed to her; though despite the wedding never materializing, she stayed with him. They lived in his cottage in Wörden, both working in the local bakery. Unknown to Margaret, Kasch's family was known to occasionally give rise to a Fighter or Sacrifice. The only living Fighter was a niece, Emily, three years old at that time.
Zak joined the world ten years into his parent's partnership. He was joined by two younger brothers and a sister (triplets) twelve years later on March 15. Their mother died of complications after a week of suffering, on March 23. That day marked the beginning of Zak's suffering; the children's father never laid a hand on the triplets, but he was vicious to his oldest child. As long as he could protect the triplets from his father, Zak took each beating in something as close to silence as he could get. Their father worked even harder at the bakery to support the children alone; he eventually married a local widow, Matilda.
The triplets were about six years old when the wedding took place. Their brother Zak was put to work on a local farm shortly after, to help lighten their father's burden now that there was a woman to care for the younger children. That didn't work out so well; the enormous amount of energy that'd been a boon taking care of himself and his younger siblings had now become a hindrance, and a danger, on the farm. After almost a year, he lost his job, and nearly his life, after an accident with a plow. Their father found him out behind the farmer's barn, cursing the farmer and his own clumsiness. They quarreled, and as the child turned to leave, their father stabbed Zak in the back, and after beating him until he was barely recognizable, went back to his wife. After leaving him to die, Kasch forbid the triplets from ever speaking their brother's name again. A small mourning ceremony was all the triplets had to tell them that Zak was no more. Their father began to beat Tristian and Elijah in their brother's place; he would have gone after Helena, but the boys hid her away. Her condition would have been a death sentence if he ever touched her, for Kasch's only daughter could feel no pain. The boys had been looking out for her and protecting her from her inability to feel much for their entire lives, with Zak starting shortly after her birth and Eli and Tris picking up where he left off. Kasch unknowingly was creating the very monsters that would be his undoing. Matilda passed away under mysterious circumstances.
The years passed in this manner, the triplets hardening against their father more with every passing day. Then came their eleventh birthday and an emissary from their older brother of all people! The messenger found the children alone while Kasch was at work and explained what had been going on behind the scenes the past four years, from Zak surviving thanks to their cousin Emily and making a new life in Japan to how he'd managed to make some powerful friends and was fighting to gain custody of the triplets. Lena was overjoyed, Eli was suspicious, and Tris just laughed and said Zak was dead; the messenger was bound to deliver the demand for custody of the triplets to Kasch on Zak's behalf, regardless of what the triplets themselves thought of the idea. She was heard, laughed at, and sent packing. The door had barely closed before the fighting started.
A month of growing harassment and terror from the messenger and local unit pieces convinced Kasch to hand the children over...dead. Little did he know that the past month had seemingly forced their bloodline's true nature to the surface in all three children. Painless appeared on Helena's spine, going straight down it; Agony appeared on Tristian's right thigh. Elijah had no word appear, instead he was gifted with the power to function in place of his siblings' missing halves. After noticing him experimenting with spells, a local unit piece broke away from the spell he was casting and began to explain this side of their world, calling Elijah a Blank and warning him that as such he was considered unstable. Using his brain and context clues, Eli figured out that Lena was what the man called a Sacrifice, meaning she had the power to control Fighters, such as Tris...or even Blanks, like himself. After presenting this new well of information to his siblings, he then told them of his plan. One or the other, or even both of them could "claim" him by giving him their namesakes, and they could destroy their tormentor and make a new life for themselves. Agreeing, Lena went first, carving Painless onto his left shoulder blade with a kitchen knife and rubbing in a mixture of ashes and salt to make sure it scarred; Trist followed her example with the right shoulder blade at the same time to make sure the bonds were the same strength, since none of them were entirely clear on whether timing had anything to do with bond strength. Eli, used to the beatings as he was, was careful not to flinch or make a sound that would make them stop, but he cried silently and bit his lip until it bled to keep himself quiet. The three gave themselves a few days of healing and experimenting with this new bond and power before putting the plan into action. One of the nights Kasch was due to come under attack by the local units once more, the triplets came out of the house, each one cut up and bruised...but alive and free. Upon invading the house, some of the local unit pieces were sick at what they found and set fire to the house where so much misery had ended so brutally.
The messenger took the triplets back to Zak in Japan, where he set them up under the care of a kindly pair of grannies until they were healed and acclimated to their new environment; admittedly he did visit them every day, but things were...strained. The boys blamed him for abandoning them, he blamed himself, and his sister was a little too happy to see him again. When the triplets were 14, they got matching tattoos on their left hips of a trio of blue outlined black hearts connected by a blue outlined black ribbon that reads "Inseparable" in a matching blue font. Zak disappeared the very next year; their guardianship transferred to one of his influential friends when he was declared missing, suspected dead. It's been nearly a year since then and they have yet to meet their guardian, but the time for that is fast approaching since the three of them must transfer schools to Seven Moons Academy or begin officially training in some other way and the grannies have passed away. They all know that there are some things that must be kept hidden about them, including the dual claiming and the mystery of why there is so much death around them. Elijah is usually assumed to be Helena's Fighter...the boys only end up hurting each other when they work together as a unit, but given Tristian's Namesake that may be unavoidable. The time has come to let others into their world, at least a little - however much the triplets may loathe the idea.
